MATHCOUNTS 2017

Posted on Feb 14, 2017

Every year, Tillman & Associates Engineering, in partnership with the Florida Engineering Society, Marion County Engineer’s Office and Engineers around the County, work together to produce MATHCOUNTS.

MATHCOUNTS is an annual mathematics competition designed for middle school students. The purpose of the non-profit organization is to provide engaging math programs to students of all ability levels in order to build confidence and improve attitudes towards math and problem solving. Middle school students exist at a critical juncture in which their love for mathematics must be nurtured, or their fear of mathematics must be overcome. MATHCOUNTS provides students with the kinds of experiences that foster growth and transcend fear to lay a foundation for future success.

Eleven middle schools in Marion County participated this year with about 75 student total! Students compete on an individual and team level in three rounds of testing: sprint, target and team. The top students then continue on to the ciphering round, where the pressure is on to buzz-in as fast as possible with the correct answer. At the end of the day, awards are given out to the top two schools  and top five individuals. We are proud of all the students and their dedication to math, these young minds could be our future engineers!

There are many paths to math. We work to ensure that all students discover theirs.
